Visas for Greek Citizens Traveling Abroad

As a Greek (EU) citizen, you enjoy visa-free travel to many countries. But for destinations like the USA, Canada, Australia, and others, you may need visas or travel authorizations. I help Greeks navigate foreign visa requirements and prepare strong applications.

Where can Greeks travel visa-free?

Greek passport holders can travel visa-free to over 180 countries, making it one of the world's most powerful passports. This includes all EU/Schengen countries (unlimited stay), UK (6 months), Japan (90 days), and many others. However, some popular destinations require visas or electronic authorizations.

USA - ESTA or Visa?

Greeks can visit the USA for tourism or business (up to 90 days) using ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) - not a visa, but a required travel permit. ESTA costs $21 and is valid for 2 years. However, if you've visited certain countries (Iran, Iraq, etc.) or have criminal history, you may need a full B1/B2 visa instead.

Canada - eTA or Visa?

  • eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) - Required for flying to Canada, valid 5 years, costs CAD $7
  • Allows stays up to 6 months for tourism or business
  • Applied online, usually approved within minutes
  • If denied or traveling for work/study, you need a proper visa

Australia - ETA or Visa?

  • ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) - For tourism or business visits
  • Allows multiple entries, stays up to 3 months each
  • Valid for 12 months, costs AUD $20
  • For longer stays or work, you need a different visa category

UK - Post-Brexit Rules

Since Brexit, Greeks can still visit the UK visa-free for up to 6 months for tourism. However, you can no longer work or study without a visa. For work, you need a Skilled Worker visa with employer sponsorship. Students need a Student visa. The rules have become significantly stricter.

What if my application is rejected?

If your visa or travel authorization is denied, you have options. For ESTA denials, you can apply for a regular B1/B2 visa at the US Embassy. For other countries, you can usually appeal or reapply with additional documentation. I help analyze rejection reasons and prepare stronger subsequent applications.

How I help Greeks travel abroad

I assess your travel plans and determine exactly what documentation you need. For electronic authorizations (ESTA, eTA, ETA), I guide you through the application to avoid common errors that cause denials. For full visa applications, I help prepare supporting documents, draft cover letters, and prepare you for interviews if required. My goal is successful approval on the first attempt.
